About

march 3, 2013
sundays @ berkeley arts presents:

9 pm
Anker-Frith duo
Lotte Anker - saxophone (denmark)
Fred Frith - guitar

"This duo has developed over the course of the last few years during several of Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker's numerous projects, most recently the What River Ensemble. Lotte is a leading voice in the Scandinavian improvisation scene, having performed all over the world—in trios with Marilyn Crispell and Marilyn Mazur, Gerald Cleaver and Craig Taborn, and more recently Ikue Mori and Sylvie Courvoisier. "Intense, creative and spiritual playing—a fascinating gleam of infinity."

PLUS

8pm
Hay-Looney-Dutz trio
Emily Hay - flute
Scott Looney - piano
Brad Dutz - percussion

Los Angeles based flutist/vocalist Emily Hay and percussionist Brad Dutz team up for the first time with bay area pianist Scott Looney to create aural palettes of wicked grooves, mesmerizing improvs, bluesy moodiness and provocative stream-of-consciousness narratives. Hay's vocals, which are described as "something like a cross between a brain damaged three month old infant and an exotic bird" will clash and mesh with Dutz's spattering, dangerous and crashing percussion timbres, odd meters and unending array of instruments, all highlighted by Looney's pianistic power and subtle intensity.
